Age-old investment advices that still work
Sometimes the simple works better than some fancy new or complex advice.
We might assume that due to the world getting more complex with the AI and maybe partly due to social media marketing the next big thing, that we need also fresh advice on how to save money and invest. Or that we need to build a million dollar business in AI just to have enough and be happy. Whatever the case, there are a few quite simple sayings that can save the day. I, for example, try to focus on a simple quote, that will get me out of fear when I’m wondering if I really need to spend on going out to a restaurant - or whatever the case when I really don’t need to buy something. Except for coffee. So, here we go.
“Money speaks only one language, if you save me today i will save you tomorrow.”
“Time in the market beats timing the market.” - especially true in trading, instead of trying to figure out the cleverest setups to beat the market, real knowledge is gained by time. Beginner traders don’t know the psychology behind trading and can act emotionally. It’s more about: 1) being emotionally stable, 2) having some experience, 3) using real rules and not gambling.
“Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” - diversification is key, be it crypto, stocks, real estate, gold, etc.
“Let your money work for you.”
“Slow and steady wins the race.”
“Buy when there is blood in the streets.” - Rothschild (attributed). Could also be similar to “Buy the dip”, aka only buy crypto, when it has fallen, not when it’s near all-time-high.
“Compounding is the eighth wonder of the world.” - Einstein (attributed)
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”
“Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful.” - Buy during market panic, avoid joining bubbles. This fits well into the AI bubble at the moment.
“The market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent.” - Keynes
These work either for just saving or for actual trading or investing.
